Getting There

Fly Drive:

You can fly into Lyon, Geneva, Grenoble or Chambery airports.  From Lyon, Geneva and Grenoble, it is approximate 2 hours drive to Barnski via Albertville, Moutiers and Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Chambery airport is a little closer, taking less than 90minutes to drive to Barnski, but flights are less regular. Note that in the winter season, hire cars from Geneva Swiss side come with winter tyres as standard.

Train:

There are regular Eurostar services from London with TGV connections in France as well as direct services to/from Bourg-Saint-Maurice at https://www.eurostar.com/uk-en/?

Drive:

If you fancy the long drive from the UK, the fastest routing is via the Chunnel and cross-channel ferry services to Calais. On leaving Calais, follow the A26 autoroute to Reims, and then subsequent routing to Troyes, Dijon, Lyon, Chambery, Albertville, Moutiers, and Bourg-Saint-Maurice.  There are plenty of family friendly service stations on the autoroutes.  Note that the autoroutes as far as Albertville are toll roads, and that there are toll stations as you approach each major town or city, that take cash or credit card.

From Bourg-Saint-Maurice, follow the signs to Les Arcs resorts.  After going up the hill for about two miles on the main road to Les Arcs, passing under the funicular, and passing a couple of turns, it will double back left quite sharply at a hairpin bend.  Approximately 150 yards after this,  there is a sharp right turn signposted for Le Crey (also sometimes called Le Cret). Take this right turn. (In the winter you may sometimes need to stop here to put snow chains on for the next bit, but usually it is ok with just snow tyres.

Follow the single track twisting road through the forest up to Le Crey village.  The road doubles back round through the village of Le Crey to the right, after which follow the signs for the next mile or so to the next village of La Grange d'Hauteville. Note that on google maps (see below) the village is referred to as 'La Grange'. Total driving time from Calais is approximately 9 hours.

Unloading & Parking:

Access to Barnski is via the public footpath and steps down to the left of the main road opposite the village post box.  You can park on the main road temporarily to unload your vehicle, but Patrick, the neighbour whose carport stands there, gets very bothered if his access is blocked, so only stop for long enough to unload. After this, vehicles should be parked in the village carpark, a further 300yards up the hill on the right hand side of the road.

Note - if when you are coming up the hill from Bourg St Maurice, you miss the right hand turn to Le Crey, and inadvertently carry on up the main road, do not get confused by signs to Les Granges. That is a different village to the left of the main road.

The key to the front door may require the handle to be 'cocked' upwards before turning to unlock.

It is strongly advised that ski equipment is not left on display in parked vehicles overnight. All Ski equipment can be stored in the Barnski boot room.
